The Raleigh School of Nurse Aesthesia (RSNA) is a unique partnership among Eastern North Carolina hospital facilities, anesthesiology practices and the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG). Founded in 1990, the school offers opportunities for graduate study in nurse anesthesia leading to a Masters Degree. The program's founding mission arose in response to the growing need for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) with particular recognition for the needs in eastern North Carolina.

The school was founded through the cooperative efforts of Raleigh Anesthesia Associates and Wake Anesthesiology Associates Inc. (now American Anesthesiology of North Carolina), Rex Hospital (now Rex Healthcare),Wake Medical Center (now WakeMed Raleigh), and Raleigh Community Hosptial (now Duke Raleigh Hospital).

The twenty four month clinical and didactic curriculum offers students the opportunity to develop into safe and competent nurse anesthetists by providing a course of study that encourages lifelong learning in the practice of nurse anesthesia. RSNA facilities are located at 3900 Barrett Drive Suite 200 Raleigh, NC 27609. The clinical curriculum of the program is taught at clinical sites in North Carolina.

Clinical sites are located in Raleigh, Eastern and Piedmont area of North Carolina. The available clinical facilities offer the student exposure to more than 100,000 cases each year, covering all ages and specialties. The successful graduate earns a Master of Science in Nursing (Nursing Anesthesia Concentration) from UNCG.

Completion of the program ensures eligibility for the Certifying Examination offered by the National Board on Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists. RSNA is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs at 222 South Prospect Ave. Park Ridge, IL 60068 (847) 692-7050.

The goals of RSNA program are for the graduate nurse anesthetist to demonstrate independent decision making skills in nurse anesthesia, the ability to assess the perioperative status of the patient, administer anesthesia, and serve as a part of the cardiopulmonary resuscitation team.
